As a lean consultant that has worked with many businesses over the years, I have often been tasked with helping to make a business more effective. I would like to share some of my advice with you now.
Here are 5 practical ways that you can be more effective as a business owner or manager.
Have Clarity of Purpose
It is vital to have a clear message of what you bring to the market. Your customers will understand the value in working with you. Having your team brought into this common purpose is a key element. This will enable them to look beyond their own day to day tasks and strive to deliver the experience that the customer wants to have now and every time.
Concentrate on what you CAN control
Successful businesspeople rarely concentrate too much on what they cannot control. Pandemics, wars, international trade deals are all outside of our control. Concentrate on what you can control or change and put your energies into this instead.
Say NO Sometimes
Saying NO is a skill many need to learn. As a business owner, having boundaries and not giving away your time for free is a must. Knowing what core business is and not straying away from this too much is the clever thing to do. And the concept of outsourcing non- core business will reduce stress and improve outcomes.
Be wary of giving credit
Giving credit is basically a loan or a gift to your client. You need to stick to very tight rules around who you give credit to and how you get paid. Do not break your own rules, they are there for a valid reason.
Value your Time
Sometimes we do not put enough value on our time or our product. If your value is too low, you will not reap the rewards you deserve. If your business is overly price sensitive, you are in trouble from the outset. If you are very busy and still not making good bottom line, then you need to do a critical analysis.
Why not start doing these five things and see what the results are. Implementing these could make a substantial difference in how you operate and how successful your business could become.
